About the Recruitment

This recruitment is conducted under the Home Department (Special Branch), Government of Bihar, for the post of Gulm Senapati (Company Commander) in the Bihar Home Guard Vahini Service Cadre. This post is to be filled through a competitive examination from among serving Home Guards (Grih Rakshak, including daily duty allowance-benefiting sportspersons) of the Bihar Home Guard organization. Male, female, and third gender candidates who are already enrolled and trained Home Guards are eligible to apply.


Eligibility Criteria

Who Can Apply

  • Must be an Indian citizen.
  • Male, Female, and Third Gender Home Guards can apply — this post is filled from within the serving Home Guard cadre, not open to the general public.

Service Conditions

  • (a) Candidate must be an enrolled and trained Male/Female/Third Gender member of the Bihar Home Guard Vahini organization who has completed at least 5 years of service/duty in the organization.
  • (b) Candidate must possess the physical and educational qualifications suitable for the post.
  • (c) As on the cut-off date of application, the candidate must have at least 10 years of service remaining.

Educational Qualification

  • Graduation from a recognized university, or an equivalent examination recognized by the State Government, by 01 August 2026.

Age Limit

  • Minimum Age: 24 years
  • Maximum Age: 50 years
  • (As per Matriculation or equivalent certificate, calculated as on 01 August 2026)

Note: No marks are awarded for height, chest, or weight — candidates simply must meet the prescribed minimum criteria, failing which they will be declared unsuccessful.

Selection Process

The selection process consists of three phases:

Phase 1: Written Competitive Examination (Two Stages)

Stage 1 — Preliminary Examination:

  • One paper of 200 marks, 100 questions, duration 2 hours.
  • Subject: General Knowledge and Current Affairs.
  • Candidates scoring less than 30% marks will be declared unsuccessful for the Main Examination.
  • Candidates equal to 20 times the number of vacancies (category-wise, merit-wise) will be shortlisted for the Main Examination.

Stage 2 — Main Examination:

  • Paper 1 — General Hindi: 200 marks, 100 questions, 2 hours. Minimum 30% qualifying marks required (this paper’s score is not counted toward merit ranking — qualifying only).
  • Paper 2 — General Studies: 200 marks, 100 questions, 2 hours. Covers General Science, Civics, Indian History, Indian Geography, Mathematics, and Mental Ability.
  • Negative marking: 0.2 marks deducted for each wrong answer in both stages.
  • Candidates equal to 6 times the number of vacancies (category-wise, merit-wise) based on Main Examination marks will be shortlisted for the Physical Efficiency Test.

Phase 2: Physical Efficiency Test (PET) — Qualifying Only

  • Candidates must qualify in all events separately.
  • Maximum of 3 attempts allowed for High Jump, Long Jump, and Shot Put.
  • Candidates who don’t complete the race within the time limit will not be allowed to participate in the other events.

Phase 3: Merit List & Recommendation

  • Final merit list prepared category-wise based on Main Examination (Paper 2) marks only.
  • Minimum qualifying marks for merit list: SC/ST/Women — 32%, EBC — 34%, BC — 36.5%, General — 40%.
  • In case of a tie, preference goes to the candidate with the older date of birth, then higher educational qualification, then alphabetical order of name (English) as per 10th certificate.
  • Final selected candidates’ names will be recommended by BPSSC to the Deputy Director General, Bihar Home Guard Vahini for appointment.

Reservation Policy

  • Reservation applies as per the Bihar Reservation Act, 1991 (as amended from time to time).
  • 35% horizontal reservation for women is applicable only to Bihar domicile women, as per the 2025 government resolution — within this, 3% is fixed for Backward Class women.
  • 2% horizontal reservation for grandchildren of Bihar’s freedom fighters (whose pension is sanctioned by the Central Government).
  • EWS reservation applies as per the Economically Weaker Sections Reservation Act, 2019.
  • Third Gender candidates get the same reservation benefit as Backward Class candidates.
  • Reservation benefits (including the 35% women’s reservation) apply only to original residents (domicile) of Bihar — candidates from other states’ reserved categories will be treated as Unreserved category candidates.

Cut-off Date

01 August 2026 — applicable for age limit, educational qualification, other qualifications/experience, Home Guard training and service certificate, etc.


How to Apply for BPSSC Gulm Senapati Recruitment 2026

  1. Applications must be submitted online only through the Commission’s website: https://bpssc.bihar.gov.in, under the “Home Guard” Tab.
  2. Only one application per candidate is allowed. Multiple applications from the same candidate will result in rejection of all applications.
  3. Only one application per mobile number is allowed — the mobile number will receive the Registration ID and Password via SMS.
  4. Application is completed in two parts:
    • Part 1 (Registration): Name, nationality, mobile number, email ID, Bihar domicile status, reservation category, gender, and date of birth — followed by online fee payment.
    • Part 2: Father’s/Husband’s name, mother’s name, address, educational qualification, and declaration, along with upload of photograph and signature.
  5. Upload a recent color photograph (taken within 2 months, white background, 15–25 KB, .jpg/.jpeg/.gif format) and signature (in English and Hindi, black/blue ink, white background, 15–25 KB, same format).
  6. Application fee: ₹100/- for all categories (male/female/third gender) — payable via Net Banking, Credit/Debit Card, or UPI only. No other payment mode is accepted.
  7. Once submitted, application details cannot be edited. Save and print the Acknowledgement (A4 size) for future reference.
  8. Application fee is non-refundable once payment is successful, except in case of technical/bank failure (refunded within 7 working days by the payment gateway).

  • Photo/signature not uploaded, unclear, or belonging to another person
  • Application fee not paid, or fee refunded via chargeback after payment
  • Incorrect information provided in the application
  • Wrong reservation category claimed
  • Discrepancy found during document verification
  • Incorrect date of birth or gender mentioned
  • Not submitting the required 5-year Home Guard service/experience certificate
  • Not meeting age limit, educational qualification, or citizenship eligibility as on cut-off date
  • Not submitting certificates issued by the competent authority in proper form
